Medicare Part D

Medicare prescription drug coverage is an optional benefit offered to everyone who has Medicare. Medicare Part D covers your prescription medications, and plans are available through private insurance companies.

Those with Medigap and Medicare should choose a stand-alone Part D plan. You may enroll in a plan during your initial enrollment period; otherwise, enrollment outside of this period is between October 15th and December 7th. This is known as the Annual Enrollment Period.

If you decide not to get Medicare drug coverage when you’re first eligible, you’ll probably pay a late enrollment penalty if you join later.

There are many Prescription Drug Plans (PDPs) available in the United States. The lowest costing policy is not always the best policy, because the coverage is based on the prescription medications of the individual purchasing the policy.

Any individual may browse and/or enroll in a PDP using the www.medicare.gov website.

Why you should select Alton Bell as your Insurance Agent

As your insurance agent, I do not sell drug plans. Instead, I help my clients on an individual basis to decide which drug plan best meets his or her needs, based on the prescription medication he or she is currently taking and/or may be taking in the near future. I offer this as a free service, both during the initial enrollment and then again, each year during the Annual Enrollment Period.

The costs and features of prescription drug plans have the potential to change on a yearly basis. Insurers may change their rates or change the medications that they will or will not cover. This is why it is important to review your drug plan EACH YEAR during the open enrollment period (October 15th-December 7th). I am always here to walk through this with you.

Prescription drug plans can be difficult to navigate. Beneficiaries may unintentionally select a plan that doesn’t cover their medication properly, or has restrictions they were not aware of.

I am here to help you determine which drug plan is best for your situation, make sure that you fully understand your options and that you are confident you’ve chosen the right plan.
